The hardest part is over – you have lost weight, maintained it, and completed the Attack Phase, Cruise Phase, and Consolidation Phase of the Dr. Dukan Diet. Now it is time to enter the Stabilization phase, which is basically life. The Stabilization phase isn’t really a phase at all. It is a set of lifestyle rules to help you stay healthy and maintain your terrific weight loss.
The Rules for the Dukan Stabilization Phase
Remember during the Stabilization phase you are really learning how to maintain your weight loss for life. the “rules” will soon just become the natural way that you eat. It will ensure that you never gain the weight back and will keep you healthy.
- One Day Pure Protein Weekly: One day a week you should eat only protein, like you did during the Dukan Attack phase. This will not only be to keep you on track but also to remind you of all the hard work you did to lose the weight. Dr. Dukan suggests usually Thursday as your Protein Only day, but any day will work as long as you stick to it.
- Be Active: During the Dukan Diet you got used to being active for at least 30 minutes daily whether this was a brisk walk or more intense exercise. This should be maintained for life both to keep off the weight but also for your health.
- Eat Oat Bran Daily: Just like you ate oat bran daily during the three other Dukan phases, you will continue to eat 2 tbsp of oat bran daily. It helps you to digest your food better, stay full, and actually limits the amount of calories you consume.
- Go Back If Needed: If you find yourself gaining weight back it is likely because you have started to eat out of control again. Start off with two pure protein days to kick your body back into healthy habits and then eat as if you were on the Consolidation phase for a few weeks. This will help you remember and return to the healthy eating habits you developed.
